Powers Ave Commercial Structure Fire
Posted On: Jul 11, 2020

At 5:40 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2020, Engine 11 responded to a fire alarm activation at the Buck Recreation Center, located at 2004 W. Powers Avenue in Littleton. No signs of smoke or fire were visible on arrival, but after investigating the cause of the alarm, a fire was discovered on the roof. A full commercial structure fire assignment was dispatched including a total of 4 Engines, 2 Aerials, 2 Medic Units, 2 Battalion Chiefs, 1 Safety Officer, 1 EMS District Supervisor and Rescue 34. Local members made an initial attack with a water extinguisher and advanced a hose line to the roof to complete fire suppression. Several crews overhauled the area which included opening up the roof to check for fire extension, a difficult task with the temperature nearly 100 degrees outside. Once the fire was completely extinguished the building was ventilated, members decontaminated, re-hydrated, and their vital signs were checked. Thankfully no injuries occurred, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
