Lakeside Ct. Wildland Interface Fire
Posted On: Aug 12, 2020

Just before 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday August 11, 2020, Local 2086 and 1309 members responded to a vegetation fire off of Lakeside Ct. in Unincorporated Douglas County. With dry conditions and high wind speeds, the fire began spreading quickly, threatening properties and homes nearby. Battalion Chief 2 upgraded the fire to a wildland interface fire, adding a larger response for fire attack and units staged nearby for extra support. Shortly after units arrived on scene, members reported urgent traffic over the radio stating the fire was extending and there was structure involvement between Chatfield Dr. and the Back Country Subdivision. Crews organized themselves into two divisions for vegetation fire suppression and structure protection. Members were able to gain control of the fire perimeter and stop forward progression. Wildland crews continued putting out spot fires on fence posts and brush. The South Metro UAV Team flew a drone over the burned area, calculating the fire was approximately 18.7 acres. The fire threatened four homes and multiple outbuildings, but did not damage them. One shed was burned. Some members stayed on scene later into the afternoon and evening to monitor flare ups. SMFR Fire Investigators are continuing to investigate the cause. No injuries were reported.
