Hampden Ave MVA/HazMat
Posted On: Apr 25, 2021

Around 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, 2021, Local members responded to a traffic collision involving hazardous materials in the eastbound lanes of Hampden Avenue just west of Dahlia Street in Cherry Hills Village. 3 vehicles were involved including a passenger car that overturned as well as a commercial landscaping truck that tipped over. Thankfully there was no extrication needed but 2 people were transported to the hospital. Members discovered fluid leaking from chemical tanks, a diesel tank and a gasoline generator. SMFR’s Hazardous Materials Team responded to assess the situation and develop a mitigation plan. The leaks were stopped, and personnel contained the spill before it spread any further to a nearby storm water drain. SMFR’s UAV was requested to the scene to document the crash site from above. Members remained on scene for over 3 hours until a heavy wrecker safely up righted the truck. Cherry Hills Village Police Department is conducting the accident investigation.
