War Bonnet Trail Brush Fire
Posted On: Aug 12, 2020

At 4:39 p.m. on Saturday August 1, 2020, Local members responded to numerous reports of a vegetation fire burning between War Bonnet Trail and Bowstring Trail in Douglas County. When members arrived, they found approximately 1-acre burning in a mix of grass, brush and trees, being pushed by gusty winds through a ravine to the west. Members prevented the fire from damaging nearby structures using a combination of progressive hose lays, mobile attack and direct attack with hand tools. By 5:45 p.m. the fire was declared under control and members worked until sunset extinguishing hot spots. Investigators determined that bird on a power pole was electrocuted, part of it fell to the ground and started the fire. The burn area is estimated at 4-5 acres. Thank you to Franktown Fire Protection District and Arapahoe Rescue Patrol, Inc. for your assistance.
