Blakeland Dr. HazMat
Posted On: Oct 18, 2020

At 4:40 p.m. on Monday, September 28, 2020, Local members responded to 8109 Blakeland Drive to assist Douglas County Sheriff Deputies with investigating a suspicious package. The building was evacuated, a unified command was established, Hazardous Materials Technicians went through a medical status check and geared up to go inside. Law enforcement officials performed an X-ray of the package and they determined that it was safe to approach. A decontamination area was set up with a charged hose line, a rescue team and medics were in place if the worst happened. Hazmat Technicians wore self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) which allowed them to breathe clean air while verifying that air levels around the package were safe. Chemical identification devices determined the contents of the package were completely safe.
