Hialeah Dr. Structure Fire
Posted On: Jul 18, 2021

Just before 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday July 14, 2021, residents of a home in the 16500 block of E. Hialeah Dr. heard a smoke alarm sounding in the basement, grabbed a fire extinguisher and investigated what was happening. They encountered a light haze of smoke throughout the basement and discovered one room completely filled with smoke. They did the right thing by quickly closing the door to the fire room, immediately evacuating everyone outside the house and dialing 911. When Members from Engine 22 arrived they quickly extinguished the fire which did not spread outside the room of origin due to the door being closed. Keeping the door closed limited the available oxygen to the flames and prevented much of the hot, toxic smoke from filling the entire home. Thankfully no one was injured and quick action by residents and firefighters helped keep damage to a minimum. Fire Investigators were unable to determine what caused the fire but believe it was accidental.
