At 11:47 a.m. on Friday, April 15, 2022, multiple 911 callers reported a building fire in the 1800 block of S. Quebec Way on the border of Arapahoe County and Denver. While members were responding, a large plume of black smoke was widely visible. Members from South Metro Engine and Medic 21 were first to arrive at 1885 S. Quebec Way in Denver. They observed a large volume of fire visible from the first and second floors, venting from the front and rear of the building. A hose line was quickly deployed for fire control and members encountered an adult with serious injuries. South Metro and Denver Health Paramedics treated that person and they were transported to the hospital.
To further complicate the already dangerous situation, flames extended into an outbuilding at 1891 S. Quebec Way and into trees, a fence and vehicle. Overhead power lines were also impinged by flames and the electricity had to be shut off by Xcel Energy. Members from Local 1290 and 858 assisted Local 2086 members to search the involved buildings and extinguish the flames.
